UNIRI NANO DAY

The UNIRI NANO DAY event was held last Sunday on October 9th 2022 (international nanotechnology day) in the University departments building (Radmile Matejčić 2), organized by the Centre for Micro- and Nanosciences and technologies (NANORI).

A rich two-hour programme was primarily conceived as an official visit from a STEM FARYTALE project partner. The project bearer is the Society of technical culture pedagogists from Ogulin, while other partners include the University of Rijeka, Croatian association of technical culture, Technical culture association of the city of Gospić, Gačanka Otočac, Society for community development, creative and artistic expression and ecology “Sunce”, city of Ogulin, Public open university Ogulin as well as the Ogulin regional museum. This project is funded via non-refundable funds from the European Social Fund (ESF) within the frame of the Strengthening of civil society organizations for STEM popularization call, also co-funded by the Croatian government’s Office for Cooperation with NGOs.

The NANORI head, Assist. Prof. D. Sc. Ivana Jelovica Badovinac, from the Faculty of Physics, welcomed the guests and presented the work being done by the Centre. An interesting lecture titled “Micro- and nanotechnologies: a technological revolution for a better future” was given by Prof. D. Sc. Saša Zelenika, the Vice Rector for Strategic Projects form the Faculty of Engineering, after which, the visitors had the opportunity to take part in a number of workshops, conceived and conducted by NANORI staff members, visit the laboratories as well as the Bura supercomputer. The study programmes available at the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics as well as the Faculty of Computer Sciences and Digital Technologies were presented in the building atrium.

Together with 3rd and 4th grade students from the Grammar and Vocational school Bernardin Frankopan Ogulin, the campus was also visited by high school students from Rijeka, interested in the STEM fields, while the entire event was, beyond expectation, covered by the media.
