In the Laboratory for Precision Engineering and Micro- and Nanosystems Technologies a mock-up model of a “CubeSat” miniaturized satellite was made using 3D printing, as a collaboration between the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rijeka, Centre for Micro- and Nanosciences and technologies and the Vidulini astronomical society. The satellite model is based on the engineering design of the satellite structure according to the CubeSat Design Specification (California Polytechnic State University – Cal Poly – cf. http://www.cubesat.org/). The mock-up model will be used for education in the field of technical sciences, as well as the basis for further development of similar systems, potentially leading to a functional miniaturized satellite, which could ultimately be launched into space.
